This March, celebrate Women’s History Month with premium spirits and wine from women-owned and operated brands! Mike’s Wine and Spirits proudly carries several domestic and international women-led brands.
Spirits
La Gritona – owned by Melly Barajas and operated by a staff comprised solely of women, from the jimadors to the distillers.
21SEED – a women-founded brand producing naturally-infused flavored tequilas.
Casa Dragones – female-founded and led by the first woman Maestra Tequilera certified by the Academia Mexicana de Catadores de Tequila (Mexican Academy of Tequila Tasters), Bertha González Nieves.
818 Tequila – premium, sustainably produced tequila brand founded by Kendall Jenner for a luxurious drinking experience that captures Mexico’s rich tequila tradition.
KOVAL Distillery – founded in 2008 by Dr. Sonat Birnecker Hart and her husband Robert. This kosher-certified distillery is located in northern Chicago and produces exceptional grain-to-glass whiskeys as well as gins and flavored liqueurs.
Edelbrand Pure Distilling – a Missouri-based distillery located in Marthasville. The distillery is run by Martin Weber, Lynn DeLean-Weber, and Tess DeLean, who draw upon their Swiss heritage to produce small-batch spirits.
Uncle Nearest – one of the top awarded whiskey brands in the world with 700+ gold medals or higher. The brand is named after the formerly enslaved man, Nathan “Nearest” Green, who famously taught Jack Daniels distilling. The incredibly accomplished Fawn Weaver is the founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest.
Augusta Distillery – a highly acclaimed distillery that sits on the banks of the Ohio River. In 2024, the distillery appointed its first master distiller and director of distillery operations, Alex Castle. Castle previously worked as the master distiller for Old Dominick Distillery.
Buzzard’s Roost Sipping Whiskeys – founded in 2019 by Judy Hollis Jones and Jason Brauner with a shared goal to redefine what American whiskey can be. Judy serves as CEO and uses her culinary background to bring a unique perspective to Buzzard’s Roost’s whiskeys while managing supply, distribution, and investor relations.
Mijenta Tequila – an additive-free tequila brand from the highlands of Jalisco. Production is led by Maestra Tequilera, Ana Maria Romero, one of the industry’s leading experts with over 25 years of experience.
Wine
Brook & Bull Cellars – Walla Walla winery led by Ashley Trout, winemaker, and Alyson Lavarnway, general manager. The winery showcases untraditional blends with an emphasis on vintage variation and Washington state’s unique terroir.
Penner-Ash Wine Cellars – founded in 1998 by Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash with a focus on crafting small productions of Pinot Noir and Syrah.
Amigoni Urban Winery – locally owned and operated winery that produces dry handcrafted wines in the West Bottoms. Amigoni was established in 2006 by Michael and Kerry Amigoni.
Black Girl Magic Wine – a brand created by sisters Robin McBride and Andréa McBride John to celebrate their ancestral roots and pay tribute to the enduring legacy of Black women worldwide.
Beer
2nd Shift Brewing – a St. Louis-based brewery run by husband and wife, Steve and Libby Crider.
BKS Artisan Ales – local Kansas City brewery located in Brookside. The brewery is owned by Brian and Mary Rooney.
Hopewell Brewing Co. – a Chicago-based brewery focused on producing high-quality, accessible beer. Founded by Samantha Lee, Stephen Bossu, and Jonathan Fritz. The group began their journey home brewing while in college and eight years later opened Hopewell Brewing Co.
Piney River Brewing Co. – founded by Joleen and Brian Durham in Bucyrus, Missouri to shine a light on craft beer from the Ozarks and get it on shelves and taps throughout Missouri and beyond!
